This document summarizes the motion made by United States Senator J.B. Grinnell from Iowa to an appropriations bill being debated in the U. S. Senate on February 5, 1867. Grinnell’s request was to insert text to allow the band of Sacs and Foxes, who would later become known as the Meskwaki, to continue to live on their land in Tama County, Iowa, and to receive annuities from the U.S. government, even though they did not reside in "Indian Territory."
